Home DIY

Every first-time homeowner, whether it’s a house or an apartment, should have some basic tools at their disposal. These tool kit essentials will get you ready to take on any DIY home décor project.

  • Tool box or anything that can support the weight of the tools
  • Tool belt
  • 30’ tape measure
  • Utility knife
  • Pocket level
  • Flat head and Phillips screw drivers in various sizes
  • Caulking gun
  • Small crow bar
  • Auger (a.k.a. a drain snake)
  • Safety gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Wet/dry vac
  • Plunger
  • Hammer
  • Pliers
  • Wrench

If you’re ready to use power tools, consider also including the following in your tool kit. Get them cordless if your budget allows:

  • Screw gun
  • Drill

There are other power tools to add to your collection of course, but more than likely you won’t use them enough to warrant the purchase. Should you need a tool that’s not in your kit, try to rent it instead of buying. Save money when you take on DIY home projects and you’ll enjoy the process that much more!
